PNG upscaler with transparency

Upscale PNGs, keep the transparency.

Logos and cut-outs come back bigger with clean, halo-free edges.

Got a whole folder?

Queue up to 500 photos at once

Drop one PNG. Its colour goes through the engine, its transparency is enlarged arithmetically and recombined, and the stage shows a checkerboard wherever the picture is see-through. Saved as PNG.

Step 1 of 3 · Files

Drop one PNG — or a folder of them to queue.

A directory or a selection becomes a queue with one rule for every picture in it. A single photograph — dropped, picked or pasted — opens the review studio instead, with a before and after at 100%.

Pixels are read and worked in this tab; model files travel to it, never the other way.

What you are shown before anything runs

— and — minutes

files · tiles · milliseconds a tile, measured over real tiles cut from your own photographs a moment ago, and the name of the graph those numbers describe.

The blanks are blank on purpose. Nothing on this page quotes a duration it has not timed on the machine it is running on, which is why the estimate arrives after the set and not before it.

Model weights come from our model file server only when you press the control that names their size. Everything else — the runtime, the decoding, the inference, the archive — is served from this domain and executed here.

What this page does differently

Transparency never reaches a model. The colour channels go through the engine; the alpha channel is enlarged with Lanczos3 on its own and put back, so the edge of a cut-out or a logo stays exactly where the source had it, with no halo drawn around it.

Resampling is premultiplied, so semi-transparent edge pixels do not pick up a dark fringe from the transparent black around them — the classic failure of enlarging a PNG in a naive editor.

The page opens in Product mode — ESPCN, which works on brightness only and so cannot shift a brand colour — with Real-ESRGAN a click away for photographic PNGs. The result is written as PNG; a JPEG would flatten the transparency onto white, and the save panel says so if you choose it.

What it will not do

  • A PNG that is a screenshot of text is treated with caution: the studio says “check letters at 100%” and suggests Product mode, because a reconstruction network can reshape a stroke.
  • Very small icons (under about 64 pixels) carry too little to reconstruct; for crisp icon art an exact vector or a redraw beats any upscale.
  • PNG is lossless, so the file is large: a 4× PNG is often ten or more times the source's bytes. The Download button shows the exact size first.

Questions about this

Is my PNG uploaded?
No. It is decoded and enlarged in this tab. Nothing is sent anywhere; a model file comes to this device only when you press the control that prints its size.
Will the transparent background stay transparent?
Yes, as long as you save as PNG or WebP. Alpha is enlarged on its own and recombined; JPEG has no transparency and would put the picture on white, which the save panel warns about.
Why is there no halo around my logo?
Because the alpha channel never goes through the model, and the resampling is premultiplied. The two usual causes of a halo — a network drawing a fringe and dark transparent pixels bleeding in — are both avoided.
Why is the file so big?
PNG is lossless: every pixel is stored. Four times the width and height is sixteen times the pixels. The exact byte count is on the Download button before you press it.
Can it upscale a logo to print size?
It can make it bigger, and the result is the best a raster can be. For print, a vector logo (SVG or PDF) is always better than any enlarged PNG.
